Hike at Moses Cone Memorial Park, Blowing Rock, NC

Join the Outdoor Ministry on a return to this park for a great mountain view hike!
Meet at WCUMC at 8:00am and carpool to Moses Cone Memorial Park, Blowing Rock, NC about 1 hour and 40 minutes from the church. At the park we'll plan to hike between three and four miles on the Flat Top Trail which starts as a high meadow with stunning overlooks of all of the highest western NC mountains. Rating is easy as the trail is an old carriage trail and designed with many, many switchbacks to keep the slope of the trail easy. The trail provides great long distance views of Grandfather Mountain, Snowshoe, Beech and even Mount Mitchell on a clear day. Leaders will have a cooler available to keep your lunch foods chilled and we'll plan to enjoy lunch together at a picnic shelter on the Blue Ridge Parkway, near the park. We'll return to the church at about 3:30pm. The park address is: Milepost 294 Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, NC. The Moses H. Cone Memorial Park is a country estate in honor of Moses H. Cone in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. It is on the Blue Ridge Parkway between mileposts 292 and 295 with access at Milepost 294. Most locals call it Cone Park. The park is run by the National Park Service and is open to the public. It contains 3,500 acres, a 16-acre trout lake, a 22-acre bass lake, and 25 miles of carriage trails for hiking and horses.
