2018 Lent Offering | Fundamentals of Food Service Program
The 2018 Lenten Offering will go to MSK's Fundamentals of Food Service Program. Through the Fundamentals of Food Service initiative, Mooresville Soup Kitchen will accept unemployed and underemployed participants of the Lake Norman community who are seeking gainful employment in the hospitality and food services industry, including restaurants, grocery stores and other food services. Under the advisement of the MSK Chef, Case Manager, and other personnel, participants will receive educational and hands-on training in meal planning, food preparation, food storage and warehousing, logistics, inventory management, and other food services tasks. Mooresville Soup Kitchen will collaborate with local grocery stores, restaurants, and other food services organizations to establish a hiring path for participants who, upon successful completion of the program, will be eligible for entry-level and management employment opportunities. Mooresville Soup Kitchen
The Mooresville Soup Kitchen is a non-denominational, Christian organization whose mission is to provide nourishing meals, fellowship, and encouragement to those in need in a warm and welcoming place. They are a faith based ministry that has opened their doors to those who are hungry with no questions asked. They serve over 3,000 meals monthly, while also providing Emergency Food Boxes and other resources as needed. Williamson's Chapel has three separate groups who serve weekly at the Soup Kitchen, using their time to help feed those who would otherwise go hungry in Mooresville. Watch the First Food Sunday video to learn more about how WCUMC is working with the Mooresville Soup Kitchen.
